HC asks Jet, Sahara to move AT

In a setback to Jet Airways, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the airline to approach the arbitration tribunal for resolving the dispute over the bank guarantee given to Air Sahara for the failed takeover deal.

Jet Airways had last year submitted a bank guarantee of Rs 500 crore for a share-purchase agreement (SPA) to acquire Air Sahara, but the deal went sour. The companies had earlier approached an Arbitration Tribunal (AT) in London to resolve the matter related to the failed takeover deal, but the issue of bank guarantee was not included.

Jet Airways to start flights to Brussels in August

India’s largest private airline company Jet Airways will make a stopover in Brussels for its flights between Mumbai and New York in the US, according to local media reports.

The service that is due to start this August will provide the first direct air link between Belgium and India, says INEP.

At present travellers to India from Belgium have to take connecting flights from other cities including Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

Jet Air, Hutch tie up for M-ticketing

Jet Airways and Hutch have entered into an agreement whereby Hutch customers who are also Jet Privilege members can book airline tickets using their mobiles.

The initiative – called M-ticketing – was unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday and makes use of a mobile ticketing solution called JetWallet. JetWallet was designed by C-Sam Inc, a company headquartered in Chicago with offices in Mumbai and Baroda. The application took almost a year to develop but the investment costs were not revealed.

Cleartrip, Jet, Futurebazaar in pact

Cleartrip, online travel portal, has entered into a tie-up with Jet Airways and Futurebazaar, an online shopping portal that provides a wide range of products at competitive prices. On every round trip booking with Jet Airways, Cleartrip will offer its customers a Free Futurebazaar shopping voucher worth Rs 1,000. This promotion has been made exclusive by Jet Airways to customers booking on Cleartrip and is valid for travel from February 19 to March 21, on all sectors on the Jet Airways network.

Jet, Sahara want to keep ground handling work

The government’s new ground handling policy has left the airline industry divided. While established full-service carriers Jet Airways and Air Sahara, are keen to manage ground handling on their own, low-cost carriers are in favour of outsourcing and want adequate competition among service providers to keep their costs down. Jet has close to 5,000 employees involved in various ground handling activities while Air Sahara has around 2,000 people on their rolls.

M&C Saatchi bags $11-m Jet Airways account

Jet Airways has awarded its $11-million (around Rs 50-crore) global advertising account to M&C Saatchi’s India operations, following an extensive selection process that lasted over six months.

The country’s largest airline is on a major expansion spree of its international network with plans to fly directly into Newark, USA in August followed by flights to Shanghai (China) and San Francisco (USA) by October. This week, Jet connected to Bangkok from Delhi and Kolkata. Over the next couple of years, Jet expects 50% of its topline revenues to accrue from international routes.

Jet starts daily flights to Bangkok

Jet Airways has started daily direct flights from both Delhi and Kolkata to Bangkok. In a statement, the airline has said that the flight is to be operated with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft that offers seating in business and economy class.

Jet plea for refund rejected by arbitration panel

Jet Airways, which is involved in a tussle with its failed takeover target Air Sahara, today failed to get respite from an Arbitration panel on its plea for refund of Rs 500 crore paid as advance.

Jet had sought refund of Rs 500 crore paid by it as advance to Air Sahara along with interest after a takeover deal was reached in January last year, but the Arbitration Tribunal declined the plea in its hearing here, sources said.

Jet to acquire 10 Dreamliners for over $1.5 bn

Jet Airways will acquire 10 Boeing 787-8 series aircraft, better known as the Dreamliner. The listed price of the aeroplanes is more than $1.5 billion.

Jet Airways will be the first private carrier and the second domestic airline after national carrier Air-India to acquire the Dreamliner aircraft. Air-India is acquiring 27 Dreamliners.

The delivery of the 10 aircraft is scheduled for between July 2011 and December 2012, subject to government clearances. They will be used for Jet’s international operations. A decision on whether to buy them outright or lease them will be taken closer to actual delivery.

Jet Airways introduces ‘Walking’ check-in

Jet Airways has just made it even easier for customers to fly, by introducing “check-in while walk-in” (Roving Check-in agent) at Mumbai, where passengers can be checked-in by the agent with the help of a hand held interface device and a hip printer.

The facility will supplement the kiosks as well as the existing check-in counters of Jet Airways.
