Eurocopter bids to replace ageing Cheetahs and Chetaks

European defence manufacturer Eurocopter is currently bidding for an Indian Army contract for 197 light helicopters. The firm is offering its Fennec 550C3 model.

“We expect the selection (of Fennec 550C3) soon to replace the Cheetahs and Chetaks of the Indian army,” EADS president and CEO Lutz Bertling told FE.

He said, “We are 100% compliant to the specification given by the Indian Army. In fact, we have already started production in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and we expect the first inspection of the same in the first quarter of 2007.”
