US companies eye $30 billion defence deals

Encouraged by the India-US civil nuclear partnership, US defence companies are now hoping to garner defence deals worth $30 billion in India over the next five years and are hopeful of winning an Indian Air Force (IAF) contract for 126 multi-role combat aircraft.

“We are convinced that the US has the most capable aircraft. We will expect (US) to prevail,” William Cohen, a former defence secretary, told mediapersons on Monday in response to a query on whether the US was confident of winning the IAF contract.
