DGCA revamp to take FAA flight path

To manage exponential growth in the aviation sector, the government is planning to strengthen the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). With the number of airlines and fliers increasing rapidly over the past few years, the civil aviation ministry is keen to spruce up the regulator and also provide it with more teeth.

Civil aviation ministry sources said DGCA would be restructured along the lines of the US regulator Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
