INS Tarangini Sails Out for a Ten-Month Voyage

‘INS Tarangini’, the Indian Navy’s only sail training ship, today set sail for ‘Lokayan 07’, a ten-month long overseas voyage, to take part in the ‘Tall Ships Challenge Series-2007’ held by American Sail Training Association (ASTA) on the Atlantic Coast of North America.

The crew headed by Commander Sunil Balakrishnan, consists of seven officers, 43 sailors and 39 cadets, including eight from the Coast Guard.

They will transit through the Suez Canal to reach the Atlantic Coast of North America in early May this year and take part in a series of Tall Ships races including ‘The World Peace Cup’, ‘Sail Virginia’, ‘Sail Rhode Island’, ‘Sail Boston’ and the 50th anniversary celebrations of the International programme of the Naval War College at New Port, Rhode Island.
