IAF pilots flying high in Singapore

After successfully tackling F-16s over the Indian skies, IAF pilots in their Mirage-2000s and Jaguar fighters have now launched combat manoeuvres with American-origin jets in Singapore.

The joint India-Singapore “Sindex” air combat exercise is being held at the Payaliber airbase, with IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal S P Tyagi, himself watching the manoeuvres. “This is the first time our pilots are flying their fighters in Singapore,” said an officer.

Till now, the Singapore Air Force used to bring its F-16s to India for combat exercises under a unique agreement between the two countries. Being a city state, Singapore simply does not have the space for its armed forces to engage in large-scale exercises, which it found in India. The agreement with Singapore has also worked to India’s benefit.
