Re-negotiate nuclear deal: CPM

Terming the US legislation on Indo-US nuclear deal as “violative” of the assurances made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Parliament last August, the CPI(M) today asked the UPA regime not to proceed any further on this and rather re-negotiate with the US administration all over again.

“We want a full-fledged debate on the US law in Parliament. The government should ensure that this debate takes place before the session is over…On each of the nine points (assurances of the PM), the US legislation by and large fails to meet India’s concerns,” CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat declared in a press conference today.

According to him, violations of the PM’s assurances include provision in the US legislation to impose restrictions and trade regimes barring access to dual use nuclear technology, thus denying India its full nuclear fuel cycle.
