Corporate jets takes the larger leap

Bizjets are finally catching up with Indian businessmen. One more proof that the Indian economy is soaring, literally.

From small and mid-sized aircraft used by senior management mainly for travel to factory sites in remote areas, corporate jets have taken the big leap to larger, super-heavy aircraft now being used to zip across continents.

The new planes coming in are actually commercial airliners outfitted in spacious corporate configuration. The first of these, a brand new Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) with the eponymous registration VT-VJM, belonging to Kingfisher Airlines arrived in India last week.

A second, purchased by Reliance Industries for use by chairman Mukesh Ambani, is currently being custom modified at Dallas. The planes are estimated to cost roughly $55m (Rs 242 crore) each and can travel anywhere in the world with just one stop.
