Burns heads to India for nuke deal

The U.S. negotiator in a nuclear deal with India will head to New Delhi this week as Congress finalizes legislation authorizing the pact.

Nicholas Burns, under secretary of state for political affairs, will meet with Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon to discuss the next step in U.S.-India nuclear relations, The Times of India reports.
 
This comes a week after U.S. nuclear industry officials joined a trade delegation to India.

The U.S. bans nuclear material and technology exports to India because New Delhi is not a signatory to the nuclear nonproliferation treaty. India has nuclear weapons.
